Under 12's Finals Run Review

August 19, 2019

THE BUS QUEENSLAND UNDER 12'S | JASON HOWLETT

Not too much to say other than the Pirates started their run in the finals race with a convincing win over the Aspley Hornets at Morningside.

From the outset, the Pirates had the Hornets on the back foot. It was hot and dry out on the field, yet the Pirates worked hard for possession. The Pirates pushed hard to the contest and were able to clear it out with kicks or running handballs.

The Pirates stood up in the back line, shutting down opportunities for the Hornets. The second quarter saw the midfield and half backs deny the Hornets any forward 50 entries. The pirates went in with a half time lead of 4 – 5 - 29 to 1- 1 – 6.

The third and fourth quarters saw the kids out on their feet, but the Pirates fought hard and shut down a lot of opportunity for the Hornets. Both teams only managed one goal for the two quarters, but the efforts were the best ever seen. In the face of some dirty back play by the Hornets, the Pirates stayed focused and showed true professionalism.

The Pirates were not going to let down the Pirate army which had secured the hill. The flags, the colours and cheering inspired the team to keep going and come away champions in today’s game, with the final score; Pirates 5-6-36 – Hornets 2-2-14. Great day to be a Pirate and couldn’t be prouder of what the team have achieved.

Thanks to the supporters and all the staff who assisted with today's game.

FINAL SCORES:

Park Ridge - 5.6-36 to Aspley - 2.2-14
