THE BIG DOG UNDER 16'S MATCH REVIEW | COACH NICK BOND

PIRATES WIN AGAINST THE MAGPIES AT HOME

Sunday saw our boys take on Sherwood at home.  Congratulations to Ethan and Brayden on their 100th games. Despite Sherwoods position on the ladder our focus for this game was attack on the football, picking it up and having an effective disposal.

The boys started off well with some nice marks for Bondy (Zac Bond) from great forward entries that resulted in goals.  Kaleb Nolan was also dangerous in the forward line for his first game back after injury. We were getting into our ‘never say die’ style of football when the game had to be halted for an ambulance to access the field to treat an u14 player in the first aid shelter from an earlier game (hope the boy is OK).

When the game resumed the boys worked hard with Lachlan Forbes, Levi and Matthew Lang working both ends of the ground and standing tall in the clinches. A bit of a lack of concentration in the 3rd quarter saw Sherwood get a couple of quick goals but a call to tighten up, hold our structure and attack the ball saw us again get back on track with some awesome second efforts from Bull (Patrick Greene).  The last quarter lead gave us an opportunity to try some different combinations which to the boys credit they adjusted very well, worked hard in both defence and attacked and looked for team mates.

A great team effort saw Park Ridge run out winners 13.11-89 to Sherwood 5.6-36

Thank you to Hayden Forbes for all your help, and to Ashleigh Lang, and to all the volunteers! Without whose help we wouldn’t have a game to even play. Very proud of our pirates, you boys should hold your heads high.

THE GARLOS PIES UNDER 14'S | COACH GORDO

The Pirates u14’s hosted Wilston Grange in an early morning match. With some overnight showers, it was wet weather footy to start.

The 14’s went into the match coming off some very good building games. And again today, showed that they are building against these higher quality teams. With two key outs, there were some positional changes made, and the players in roles they either hadn’t done in a while, or never done. And to their credit, each and everyone of them played their roles.

The 1st qtr was a close affair, with each team driving into the forward line without too much reward, the second qtr Wilston grange kicked a few quick goals in succession, which put us on the back foot. The third qtr, we went out with a back to basics attitude, to get the fundamentals right. For the most part we did this, and equalised the qtr. The 3rd and final qtr sore the pirates with 3 injuries, and down to 15 on the field. This brought the team together, with a solid last qtr where we out scored Wilston Grange, and controlled the football extremely well, seeing the pirates win the second half.

With the final score pirates 4.3.27 to Wilston grange 10.6.66

Well done to all pirates in the u14’s today, you all played your roles extremely wel and stood up when it counted. Although we didn’t win, you have proven again that we are all improving as a group and are only getting better. Which will no doubt show in the later part of the year. To the three boys who were injured today, heal well and we look forward to seeing you all back on the paddock soon

THE BUS QUEENSLAND UNDER 12'S | COACH COREY PITTS

On Sunday the under 12s traveled up the M1 to Redcliffe. The 12s were under manned with 9 players out and were lucky to field a side, but as they have done all year the under 11s stepped up and 8 of them made the trip. The first half was telling on the young side as they looked a little hesitant due to size. At half time the coach asked the players for more effort and they responded to do us all proud and grind out the rest of the game.

SCORE: Redcliffe 7-12-54 to Pirates 1-1-7

The 12s welcome 5 back from Met West duties this week and will look to bounce back Friday night at Home.
