THE BUS QUEENSLAND UNDER 12'S MATCH REVIEW | COACH JASON HOWLETT
It was a cut lunch and water-bag trip for the under 12’s to take on the Moreton Bay Lions at Burpengary. The trip was made harder by an early start which robbed the mums of a sleep in and brekky in bed for Mothers Day. Nonetheless, the team, parents and supporters all turned up to watch and support the Pirates.
As the 12’s took to the field, they presented their mothers with a rose and chocolate for Mothers Day, but this was not the only gift!
Burpengary field is one of the largest fields in Brisbane and a game plan had been hatched to spread the ball wide and use the space. Everyone had a role to play. Things didn’t quite go to plan however. The Pirates seemed flat and didn’t want to hunt the ball, which saw them doing a lot of chasing.
When the ball made it into the forward 50, there were glimpses of good footy, but it was always catch up footy with the opposition always one or two goals up. There were some good passages of play towards the third and fourth quarters, however, the majority of the work was being done in the backs to stop the Lions from extending their lead.
In the last quarter, the Lions were up by 9 points, and in what is becoming true U12’s fashion, they leave until the dying minutes to get a couple of quick goals to steal the lead from the Lions and provide the perfect Mother’s Day gift.
Thanks to Cappa and all those that assisted with todays game.
A special thanks to all the mums, present or absent. Happy Mothers Day.
SCORE: Moreton Bay 3.10–28 to Pirates 4.7–21
THE GARLOS PIES UNDER 14'S MATCH REVIEW | COACH GORDO
The u14’s came up against one of, if not the top team tonight Cooparoo, and I couldn’t be any prouder of our team. Against a bigger and faster team I can honestly say our boys can hold their heads high.
They gave it everything they had. They put their bodies on the line, heads over the ball and never gave up. We had moments where we showed our class, Some big tackles, big marks and hard runs in wet conditions. We slowed their scoring down to almost nothing for a quarter. And to the credit of each and every kid, they never gave up, and played all the way to the final siren. Thank you to the three u12’s that helped out, each of you gave us something and looked at home with the 14’s.
Also a huge thank to to Tamara Chalmers and all the volunteers that make it possible for the team to play football each and every week. We can’t do it without each and everyone of you. Lauchlan Simmons, the team and I really appreciate it, and thank you.
SCORE: Coorparoo 12.12-84 to Pirates 0.1-1
