Round 4 Youth Match Reviews
THE BUS QUEENSLAND UNDER 12'S MATCH REVIEW | COACH JASON HOWLETT
Under 12 Pirates traveled to Lowe Oval, Springwood to take on the Springwood Pumas. Games with Springwood are always tough and a good challenge, and today's game was no different. Well to be honest it was differen, today we had to get it over them and show them the strength and bond of the Pirate family.
What looked to be a great weather for footy, turned out to be quite warm. It was a physical game from the start and continued through to the final siren. The Ruck contests today were exceptional, and the midfield capitalised on most occasion. The forwards worked well and provided good leads and contested marks. The Pirates back line was tremendous in defence, showing confidence in the contest, getting quick offloads by handball or kicks and follow-up efforts.
It was such a tough game that by 3 quarter time a number of players were carrying injuries, reducing our numbers at one stage to 16, but the scores were still close, and the battle had to continue for another quarter. And that it did!
In the back end of the last quarter Springwood kicked a goal putting them 1 point in front with scores now sitting at 45 to 44. Knowing they were in the dying minutes and showing true Pirate spirit and persistence, they pushed the ball forward and locked it in the forward 50. This saw the forwards and mids rally and fight for the ball. Every contest had numbers. until it popped out and got put to boot and through the sticks, with the fulltime siren sounding shortly after, giving the Pirates a well-deserved and hard-fought win.
SCORE: Springwood 7. 3 – 45 TO Pirates 8.2 – 50
